Vizcaya Gardens remains one of the most beautiful places to photograph in Miami, and it was the perfect backdrop for Arletty’s elaborate quinceanera gowns. Looking like she had hopped out of a storybook, she sashayed her way around blossom lines pathways and statues like a true princess. My favorites from the shoot:

On the car ride to her photo shoot location, Dany and I talked. She was wrapped in a cloud of fluffy while tulle; feeling beautiful and a little apprehensive like every  fifteen year old girls who gets to be princess for a day in the customary cuban fashion.

We talked and covered boys, college, classes, and friends in a short twenty minutes. Although it always boils down to the same topics; I love having a glimpse into these girls lives, their distinctive personalities and their fresh, reachable dreams. Dany in particular is kind of quiet and shy but has big plans, and I have a feeling she may just make them real.

Here are my favorites from her session:

I loved all the pictures, thank you so much. Can’t wait to see the album. I had fun :) you’re the best <3

With this couple and me it may have been love at first sight, we clicked from the very beginning and there just isn’t much I haven’t already said about them.

Maybe except that Kristy is one of the funniest people I know. Yes, she is beautiful, and she is just as beautiful on the inside, not for one moment taking herself too seriously, or demanding to be the center of attention, but naturally radiating that genuine happiness that draws everyone to her.

That draws Chris to her.

He lead, managed, took care of details behind the scenes on his wedding day, making sure everything was perfect, not to impress, but for her. So that his bride would have her perfect day. He has this innate ability to give and put others first.

Kristy, Chris, it was such an honor to be part of your day. Here are my favorites from your beautiful wedding:

Absolutely beautiful bride and absolutely beautiful photos. Of course, I think it is an absolutely beautiful venue.

I love it when one of my sweet nice couples refer to me their equally nice friends. Brittany, Justin and I hadn’t officially met in person before their engagement session today, and I was so glad to find that we hit it off immediately and had an absolute blast.

The chemistry between these two is off the charts! As I uploaded their images from our time together and worked them, I couldn’t help but feel the sparks flying between them.

Brittany and Justin: Thank you so much for allowing me to orchestrate and document this celebration of your commitment to each other, and be witness to your bond. Keep holding on to one another tight!

We started at the field where Justin coaches football. After a lot of persuasion, he has finally turned his better half into a Missouri fan…

Brittany you looked so cute in your Missouri University tee it’s not even funny. :)

I believe the following set is my favorite:

Then they glammed it up several notches for some shots out on the town.

There is more! View the complete slideshow of Brittany and Justin here.

Sometimes life throws curve balls. Like a prophecy that the world will end on your wedding day, or the DJ forgetting the song for your first dance, or the power going out during the reception toasts. Challenges like these can discourage even the most cheerful of brides. When it comes to our wedding day, we want everything to be perfect.

But life is not perfect, and it is sometimes among the chaos that the best opportunities arise; a chance to cling on to your husband for support, to know how blessed you are to have friends who will walk you through any crisis, a chance to value what really matters in life. A chance to cut your wedding cake to romantic candlelight, to the sound of laughter and celebration, rather than electrical lights and a random song blasted from the DJ’s speaker :)

Life doesn’t always happen the way we plan it. Brittany and Matt had an unconventional, whirlwind of a wedding to match their unconventional, unique love story. The crazier the circumstances, the more they hold on to each other, lift up each other. They have that kind of love.

Here are some of my favorite images from their special day…

Their first look :)

Everything about Brittany was pure class and elegance.

It was colder than usual for a May afternoon yesterday, when Marie, Shane and I met for their engagement session. But the chilly weather was just the perfect excuse to snuggle up for these two lovebirds. Shane has this remarkable ability to make Marie laugh and I was delighted to see them interact and capture their undeniable chemistry.

This couple is extremely crafty and detail oriented. Every time we get together I get exponentially more excited about their wedding, that is going to be packed with thoughtful details and tokens of their relationship. I have a feeling it will also be a very emotional, special day and I can’t wait to document it.

Here is their very sweet sneak peek.

It is true, Shane and I had a great time despite the weather. It was 60°F (or lower) in mid May which is very odd for Georgia. Odalys was easy going and relaxed making the experience wonderful. She not only encouraged me to post her slide show, she told me how to do it.

We cannot wait to work with Odalys again!

Great photos! You both look great. Best wishes for a wonderful life together!

Ever since we moved to our house in Georgia four years ago, I have marveled at this driveway a few blocks from our home. The perfect line of trees is always there, patiently waiting for the next season to bring about a new color. In the summer, they are a lush green that sparkles when the wind dances through their leaves. In the fall, they are bright orange-red, like a floating flame leading to an endangered house, this past week the first signs of spring are starting to paint them a cottony white, my favorite, and in another week or so they will change to the lightest, most tender green.

Today I took a few snaps of this pretty spot for the first time in four years. The transient quality of nature and its changing palette are a reminder that part of the beauty of this workd is that nothing stays the same, that we are allowed to change, and with each season there are new reasons to rejoice and grow.

Spring has me gaga over flowers. Ever since I made a few bridal bouquets for photo shoots I have had a craving to make more arrangements. I think playing with the colors and design of the arrangements is like playing with composition and color in photography, they are very similar. Here is my latest bouquet.

I have so much respect and admiration for love that lasts a lifetime.

This past weekend I photographed my good friend’s parents who are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary very soon. These images are pure beauty to me. They are so happy, and at peace, living a life surrounded by kids and grandkids who adore them. I wanted their session to reflect this stage in their lives. Here are my favorites…

Being married to a marine for ten years, I am very familiar with the phrase: “pain is weakness leaving the body”. If that is the case, I have taken giant leaps towards being stonger this past few days. Every single inch of my body is screaming in agony as I push it towards a new lifestyle of physical fitness this week.

When I decided to be a wedding photographer, no one mentioned that besides attention to detail and artistic vision, physical endurance and stamina is crucial. Running after a spirited toddler on a two hour session is a piece of cake compared to the activity level involved in a wedding.

Some things I do at a wedding:
Stand for ten hours straight in professional attire.
Hold steady a heavy camera with an even heavier lens and flash for ten hours straight while I squat, sprint, climb step-stools, etc.
Charmingly command the attention of large groups.
Make jokes.
Hug and comfort the bride about the weather, the flower girl throwing a tantrum, or mom being overbearing, all while holding my camera, lens, and flash.
Shed a tear while the bride and groom exchange vows.
Adhere to a super-strict schedule.
Make more jokes.

Some things I don’t do at a wedding:
Sit, unless you count quick bathroom breaks.
Eat anything more than a granola bar.
Put my camera down.

Granted, I passionately love what I do, and adrenaline is known to pump us humans and do things that we never thought possible. Thank God for adrenaline! But the day after a wedding I found myself useless, tired, and sore. I also reached that magical age when you can no longer eat a McDonalds happy meal and a tub of Ben and Jerry’s Chunky Monkey without paying the consequences. So I dusted off my old P90X DVD collection and have been torturing my body for the past three days in unfathomable ways.

Some things I can do today:
Wake up from pain every time I change positions while sleeping.
Wimper if I have to reach up to put the dishes away in my kitchen cabinets.
Walk like a duck.
Scream if my daughter jabs her elbow in my stomach

Some things I can’t do today:
Go down the stairs.
Get up from bed without employing my hands, elbows, and every physical effort known to man.
Put on my pants while standing.
Not walk like a duck.

I did consider milder ways to start an exercise regime, and even now I wonder if that wouldn’t have been the safer way. But P90X has never let me down in the past, and with wedding season just around the corner, I want results. By releasing my intentions out to the cyber world, I am no longer alone in my quest for health and fitness, no longer allowed to fail or come up with excuses, this blog post holds me accountable.

So cheers to the pain that shall make me a stronger photographer!

Weights, mat, and the delicious mediterranean scramble I had for lunch :)
