“I am not really affectionate in public” was one of the first things Kelby said when I arrived at their brand new house yesterday. Hmmm, right. :)   For the entire duration of their engagement photo shoot yesterday, Kelby could not take his hands off his gorgeous fiancee. Looking through all the shots, I am amazed by how protective he is of his future wife and the bond these two share. They play and goof around like high school sweethearts and if there’s anything that their brand new home won’t be lacking, it is laughter and affection.

Heather and Kelby share a love for cooking and baking. We started their engagement photo shoot in their brand new house.

Gimme some sugar :)

Heather’s family has this huge property where the wedding wilk take place in September. Heather has an amazing, close-knit family. Her aunt had this swing made and hung on the property in honor of Heather and Kelby the day before the shoot. Isn’t that the most thoughtful gesture ever?

I LOVE this shot!

Heather, you are breathtaking!

And this is Kelby doing his GQ special :)

These two are my favorites. You guys look incredible!

Thank you guys for letting me into your lives to document your love. your wedding is going to be a dream! Hugs :)

Being married to a marine for ten years, I am very familiar with the phrase: “pain is weakness leaving the body”. If that is the case, I have taken giant leaps towards being stonger this past few days. Every single inch of my body is screaming in agony as I push it towards a new lifestyle of physical fitness this week.

When I decided to be a wedding photographer, no one mentioned that besides attention to detail and artistic vision, physical endurance and stamina is crucial. Running after a spirited toddler on a two hour session is a piece of cake compared to the activity level involved in a wedding.

Some things I do at a wedding:
Stand for ten hours straight in professional attire.
Hold steady a heavy camera with an even heavier lens and flash for ten hours straight while I squat, sprint, climb step-stools, etc.
Charmingly command the attention of large groups.
Make jokes.
Hug and comfort the bride about the weather, the flower girl throwing a tantrum, or mom being overbearing, all while holding my camera, lens, and flash.
Shed a tear while the bride and groom exchange vows.
Adhere to a super-strict schedule.
Make more jokes.

Some things I don’t do at a wedding:
Sit, unless you count quick bathroom breaks.
Eat anything more than a granola bar.
Put my camera down.

Granted, I passionately love what I do, and adrenaline is known to pump us humans and do things that we never thought possible. Thank God for adrenaline! But the day after a wedding I found myself useless, tired, and sore. I also reached that magical age when you can no longer eat a McDonalds happy meal and a tub of Ben and Jerry’s Chunky Monkey without paying the consequences. So I dusted off my old P90X DVD collection and have been torturing my body for the past three days in unfathomable ways.

Some things I can do today:
Wake up from pain every time I change positions while sleeping.
Wimper if I have to reach up to put the dishes away in my kitchen cabinets.
Walk like a duck.
Scream if my daughter jabs her elbow in my stomach

Some things I can’t do today:
Go down the stairs.
Get up from bed without employing my hands, elbows, and every physical effort known to man.
Put on my pants while standing.
Not walk like a duck.

I did consider milder ways to start an exercise regime, and even now I wonder if that wouldn’t have been the safer way. But P90X has never let me down in the past, and with wedding season just around the corner, I want results. By releasing my intentions out to the cyber world, I am no longer alone in my quest for health and fitness, no longer allowed to fail or come up with excuses, this blog post holds me accountable.

So cheers to the pain that shall make me a stronger photographer!

Weights, mat, and the delicious mediterranean scramble I had for lunch :)

Today I went on a little expedition with one of my 2011 brides to visit her venue: Meadowlark Gardens in Griffin, GA. The place is beautiful! Even with all the naked trees and ice covering the walkways I can just see how gorgeous this venue will be in the spring and I can’t wait!

This is an awesome group of girls. Ever since I booked this wedding last year Meagan and her family have been so welcoming and sweet, I feel like I’m part of the family. I’m thrilled that I will be shooting this wedding and can’t wait to share!

They say the more you like someone, the prettier they become in your eyes. When I uploaded this session  to my computer I was  fascinated by the cuteness quotient of this brother and sister. These kids have become very dear to our family. They are close friends with my daughters and the foursome is together sometimes almost every day;  they are practically part of our family.

It was unusually warm this afternoon for a New Year’s Eve and we took advantage by ditching our jackets and kicking off our shoes, letting our toes have a feast on the wet grass. I am glad to enjoy this little bout of nice weather before the frigid temps coming in the next two months.

Here are my favorites. Enjoy your sneak peek guys!

And this is the last blog post / session of 2010! What an amazing year this has been! A year of change, good change. I am so excited to see what 2011 brings, I have a feeling it’s going to be the best year ever!

Happy 2011 to all. May you always be blessed with love, health, and abundance :)

Yesterday, someone very close to me called to tell me they had received a check for just enough to pay an outstanding debt that was about to go to collection and they had been stressing about. This is someone who has gone through a rough time, and doesn’t have the strongest faith. This friend’s words to me were: “He truly gives you exactly what you need when you need it. It’s incredible, He never abandons us and is always bailing us out.” :)

This incredible Source that we call God, our source of love, faith, hope, and everything else good, is limitless in His generosity. Thousands of years ago tomorrow, we received the greatest gift of all from His greatness, an extraordinary Son to bring us closer to Him and remind us of that goodness that still prevails in our hearts, of the awesomeness we are capable of, and the bountiful universe we live in, one of unlimited resources. A light to remind us of where we come from, what we are part of, and where we are going.

Tomorrow morning when my kids’ eyes sparkle as they open their presents I will smile and my heart will jump with joy. This is the best time of the year… a season of giving, a celebration of generosity, of the plentiful world we live in. Although we give more love, give more food, give time, and give presents, the more we give, the fuller our cup is, we never run out. And for that gift, I thank you Lord.

Cheers to giving!

I spent some time this afternoon photographing this blue-eyed beauty. She is an aspiring actress and model with some impressive roles under her belt already. Here are a couple of my favorite shots from our session:

As a photographer, I am always behind the camera and seldom in front of the lens. So, determined to get some family photos this past weekend, I took the DIY route and captured some fun and cute moments of my troup. Here are my favorites:

Meet Justin. He is a pretty laid back senior who knows what he wants. We spent some time yesterday at beautiful Callaway Gardens for his senior pictures. Here are a few of my favorites:

Looking ultra-cool in his car.

His family and I are both from South Florida so we are Miami Dolphins fans.

Justin is a welder and wants to pursue a career in this field after graduation. I came over to the shop to see him work and capture some of shots of this part of his life.

And no, this is not his sister, it’s his beautiful mom :)

I want to be two again. There are new things to discover and master every.single.day. You are fed on demand, read to, played with on a daily basis by a team of people who hug you constantly, laugh at your every silly stunt, and just find you irresistible. You have no care in the world. Here is my youngest being herself. I may just hop onto bed and jump with her next time.

Brittany and Matt are the cutest couple! It is so easy to see how much they adore each other. It was hard to find a few shots where Matt’s actually looking at the camera; this man does not take his eyes off his sweetheart, or his hands for that matter. And who can blame him; Brittany is stunning! :)

Thank you guys for letting me document this special time in your lives, and I can’t wait to photograph your wedding next year! Here is your sneak peek:
