Back in June I was so fortunate to collaborate with some awesome vendors in the Atlanta area to put together this bridal photo shoot inspired by summers in the South.

My friend and talented designer Misty Smith created the rustic chic tablescape, with garden inspired accessories that gave the setting an airy, charming vibe.

This photo shoot was published by the fabulous ladies at Sparkle and Hay bridal blog, one of my favorite publications for rustic chic wedding inspiration. Enjoy!

Vizcaya Gardens remains one of the most beautiful places to photograph in Miami, and it was the perfect backdrop for Arletty’s elaborate quinceanera gowns. Looking like she had hopped out of a storybook, she sashayed her way around blossom lines pathways and statues like a true princess. My favorites from the shoot:

I feel like it’s Christmas morning every time I get a shipment of wedding albums. Maybe it’s the fact that I am an avid reader and books appeal to me. Seeing the¬†story of a wedding told through a beautifully bound leather book makes the memories tangible and ever-lasting. I love the feeling of picking up a fat, heavy, luxurious volume and sitting down with a cup of tea to look through old memories.

I believe a great wedding album should be timeless, so I keep mine clean and simple. I want my brides to be just as proud of their investment twenty years from now as they were when they received it. This one was a gorgeous Italian gray leather with a modern square layout and lettering.

The inside design is as streamlined as the exterior. I avoid busy collages that take away from the main focus: beautiful images that tell the story of the day.

A companion album is a smaller, more portable version of the wedding¬†book. It can easily be taken with you to work or¬†get-togethers to share with wedding memories with your friends and family.¬†They also make excellent thank-you gifts to parents. They are classic and chic covered in buttery leather and engraved with the bride and groom’s names or a special quote.

Sometimes life throws curve balls. Like a prophecy that the world will end on your wedding day, or the DJ forgetting the song for your first dance, or the power going out during the reception toasts. Challenges like these can discourage even the most cheerful of brides. When it comes to our wedding day, we want everything to be perfect.

But life is not perfect, and it is sometimes among the chaos that the best opportunities arise; a chance to cling on to your husband for support, to know how blessed you are to have friends who will walk you through any crisis, a chance to value what really matters in life. A chance to cut your wedding cake to romantic candlelight, to the sound of laughter and celebration,¬†rather than electrical lights and a random song blasted from the DJ’s speaker :)

Life doesn’t always happen the way we plan it. Brittany and Matt had an unconventional,¬†whirlwind of a wedding to match their unconventional,¬†unique love story. The crazier the circumstances, the more they hold on to each other, lift up each other. They have that kind of love.

Here are some of my favorite images from their special day…

Their first look :)

Everything about Brittany was pure class and elegance.

When I was working in Miami last month I photographed this beauty and her session just never made it into my blog.

I had so much fun working with Marla. She is seventeen and one of the most happy, genuine people I know. Us cubans do this huge celebration when a girl turns fifteen; it represents a coming of age, and entering society as a lady. A huge part of this tradition is a photo shoot in a formal, princess-like gown and other fashionable outfits. How fun is that?!

Life got in the way for Marla around her fifteenth birthday. So here we are, two years later, catching up with tradition and having a blast while doing it. The plus side is less pressure to perform. At seventeen Marla has an amazing outlook in life and a real knack for letting go and having the time of her life, even if her heels are killing her.

The small bridal cottage at Meadowlark Gardens was a whirlwind of garment bags, feminine laughter and floral perfume as I returned from photographing the groom and his family. “West is dying to see you” I told Meagan and her mega-watt smile beamed unabashedly, and nervously. The day was¬†racing up to this moment when they would see each other in private for the first time. Trying to approach it calmly, delaying it almost an impossibility. Meagan and West are so drawn to each other, almost magnetically. This energy permeated through their first look, and their beautiful wedding this past weekend. Looking back through the photos I could feel it in every image.¬†The way they look at each other just radiates love.

Here is a small peek into their day…

Some couples just have an energy about them. They gravitate towards each other even when in a crowd, they laugh together incessantly, and they build each other up, fuel each other to become better and stronger.

I was touched to photograph one of these couples on their wedding day last weekend. He also happens to be my beloved cousin and you may remember their engagement session here. The wedding was, in one word,¬†emotional. It’s hard not to be when you are witness to this kind of celebration, the type that reminds of you of what’s real and important in life.

Without further due:

Love Ana’s shoes!

Ana and Roldan opted to see each other before the ceremony which I love. It gave them a chance to connect and have a private moment before their guests arrived.

The wedding party…

FUN!

I didn’t know my little cousin had these moves :)

A very emotional father -daughter dance…

Sra. Odalys Mendez : Las fotos tomadas por Usted en la boda de Ana y Roldan estan maravillosas, profesionalmente bien logradas y artisticamente concebidas. La felicito por su bella creacion.

I was working in Miami last week, and my first session there was very unusual for me, because it was a family of adults.

Jennifer, the oldest daughter contacted me a while back about photographing them. This foursome is very close-knit despite the kids being fully grown. Jennifer is very passionate about her parents and very protective of her little sister, and she reminded me in a way, of myself. I love that I was able to capture this phase of their lives.

Ever since we moved to our house in Georgia four years ago, I have marveled at this driveway a few blocks from our home. The perfect line of trees is always there, patiently waiting for the next season to bring about a new color. In the summer, they are a lush green that sparkles when the wind dances through their leaves. In the fall, they are bright orange-red, like a floating flame leading to an endangered house, this past week the first signs of spring are starting to paint them a cottony white, my favorite, and in another week or so they will change to the lightest, most tender green.

Today I took a few snaps of this pretty spot for the first time in four years. The transient quality of nature and its changing palette are a reminder that part of the beauty of this workd is that nothing stays the same, that we are allowed to change, and with each season there are new reasons to rejoice and grow.

Spring has me gaga over flowers. Ever since I made a few bridal bouquets for photo shoots I have had a craving to make more arrangements. I think playing with the colors and design of the arrangements is like playing with composition and color in photography, they are very similar. Here is my latest bouquet.

He was the youngest of us four by a few years. My sister, his brother, and I used to play cards, dominoes, and chinese checkers, and since he was too young to play, he would sabotage our games by throwing toys and suddenly jumping into it, knocking off the pieces. We called him “the group-breaker”.

Over twenty years later, my little cousin has grown into this unbelievably caring, strong man, and he’s found a woman with an equally beautiful soul to share his life with.

They were buddies since middle school and lost touch somehow after graduation. He had always liked her but it seemed like their relationship was destined to be only a friendship. When they met again after several years through mutual friends and found out they were both single, the old attraction was rekindled almost immediately and they have been inseparable ever since.

This December he took her to Disney World with a ring, a one-of-a-kind fortune cookie, and a plan. “I was so nervous, I had to make sure I kept her on the opposite side of where the ring and the cookie were in my jacket, or she would have known” Roldan said to me during their session. Ana loves to read her fortune and after dinner at their favorite restaurant, she¬†broke her cookie to find that the message inside was “Will you marry me?”. She was laughing histerically, thinking “what are the odds?” until she saw Roldan getting down on one knee and the laughter turned into tears of happiness.

Here are my favorites from their engagement session in Miami this weekend. I was swooning over the location and how gorgeous these two are! Can you say GQ material?

Ana, you are seriously, ridiculously gorgeous!

And Roldan is not far behind :)

The weather was gorgeous in Miami this weekend, after shooting for a little while we needed something to cool off and what’s better than a healthy frozen yogurt treat?

As the sun was setting we made a quick run to the Coconut Grove Marina for some last shots.
